All hail the QUEENS! International Women’s History Month revs up in DC this month with two Queen-centric openings.

Queen of Basel at the Studio Theatre based on August Strindberg's classic, Miss Julie, deals with the complexity of the LatinX perspective, immigration, class and white privilege all under the backdrop of Miami’s most notable contemporary art fair, Art Basel. Held every December, Art Basel is globally known for its high art, and party-scene -- a veritable playground for the rich and famous.

Spectacular performances exploded on stage in a fast-moving performance set in a tiny hotel service kitchen. The story explores the lives of three Jedi characters -- a Venezuelan cocktail waitress, her Afro-Cuban Uber driver boyfriend, and a troubled socialite daughter of a hotel mogul. Race, ethnicity, alcoholism, and desire are at the forefront of this intriguing narrative. “Riveting” is the only way to describe what happens when worlds clash and lives are changed forever.

Queen of Basel was written by playwright, Hilary Bettis, directed by Jose Zayas and conceived, commissioned by Miami New Drama.

QUEEN OF BASEL runs through April 7th.
