Distinguished historian, best-selling author, and Emmy winner, Michael Beschloss, was honored by the National Archives Foundation with its highest recognition, the Records of Achievement Award, last night
The evening was moderated by journalist and NBC colleague, Andrea Mitchell and was attended by eminent friends and prominent DC dignitaries. Notable attendees included Rep. Don Beyer, Governor James Blanchard, Ambassador Laurie Fulton and many more. In talking about the importance of the Archives, Beschloss commented:
“Our Founders didn’t know there would be a National Archives, but I would speculate that they would like the fact that we have an institution that makes sure our records are preserved and that they are available to a people as soon as possible…and that we benefit from the mistakes and the successes as soon as possible.”
Beschloss is NBC’s News Presidential Historian, a contributor to the PBS NewsHour, and has been honored with six honorary degrees. His Twitter (@BeschlossDC) following is the largest of any American historian with over 838K followers to date. He has chronicled some of the most consequential moments in American history.
In addition to the National Archives Foundation, Beschloss is a trustee of the White House Historical Association and a former trustee of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. He is an alumnus of Andover and Williams College and the Harvard Business School, where he studied leadership in both the private and public sectors. He has served as a historian at the Smithsonian, a resident scholar at Oxford University, and a senior fellow of the Annenberg Foundation. His newest book, Presidents of War, tells the epic story of the American Presidents who have waged our major wars.
